Online Kappa By-Laws
Beta Sigma Phi is an international women's friendship network. It also provides educational programs to its members and opportunities for service to others. We are women of all ages, interests and educational and economic backgrounds, and are the largest organization of our kind in the world.
In order to join an on-line group, one must be either a Member-at-Large or an Active Member. You may hold membership in a "land" chapter in addition to an affiliation with an On-line Chapter; or you may retain your Member-at-Large status and become a member of an On-line Chapter.
The name of this chapter by the authority of the Executive Council shall be On Line Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. OLK was recognized by International with a charter date of November 1, 2000.
The Chapter year shall consist of twelve meetings, September 1st through August 31st. The Chapter birthday shall be on June 30th and shall be acknowledged in some special way by the members.
Regular meetings shall be held on the second Sunday of each month starting at 9 a.m. PST; 10 a.m. MST; 11 a.m. CST; 12 p.m. EST. Meetings will continue, if necessary, into the next day.
A quorum shall be one-third of the active membership.
Dues shall be $35 annually (which includes a mandatory $15 Ways and Means fee), payable no later than August 31st and delinquent at the close of the business meeting in September. On January 1st, dues for new members are prorated at the rate of $2 per month for those months remaining in the Sorority Chapter's year, ending August 31st. No member shall receive her yearbook until her financial obligations are completed.
New members shall pay the same as above. These monies are to be paid within 60 days of a new member's acceptance into the chapter. At the end of the 60-day period, should these obligations not be met, the member shall be removed from our membership rolls.
Membership is open to any woman who is interested in joining OLK and who is not already affiliated with another online chapter. She must be in good standing with the International Office. Chapter membership is limited to twenty-five (25). Laura Ross Wingfield became an OLK Honorary Member as of February 2002.
If she is not currently a Beta Sigma Phi member upon contacting us for membership, she will need to contact the International Office as our Pledge. Once she is in good standing with the International Office, she will receive the Pledge Ritual through our chapter after submitting chapter dues and other obligations to International Beta Sigma Phi.
A three (3) month leave of absence (LOA) will be granted if a member has computer problems, surgery, illness, and/or relocation issues. Dues must remain current with both the Chapter and International during the LOA.
The Recording Secretary will contact International at the beginning of each chapter year to verify dues being current.
The goal for On Line Kappa shall be to unite congenially into fellowship, sisters who have been accepted into Beta Sigma Phi. Our goal is to bring love, support and most of all friendships, into our chapter and our world by providing sisters a place to network, receive and give support as we journey through our lives, and to empower sisters with the strength, knowledge and wisdom to be creative and to be proud of who they are. It's that unconditional love that gains us our friendships and makes us a better person.
OLK will follow the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority annual theme.
Amendments or additional by-laws, not in conflict with the Constitution of Beta Sigma Phi or rules and regulations of the Executive Council, may be passed by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Chapter. Such amendments or by-laws must be presented in writing to the Chapter 30 days before adoption. By-Law amendments must be sent to International Office for approval by the International Executive Council. Any additional by-laws through the Recording Secretary's minutes of the Chapter meeting will be sent to International as well.
